Greenland Wheatear Identification Article

Greenland WheatearThere are three different forms of NORTHERN WHEATEAR Oenanthe oenanthe – those that occur in Greenland and Iceland (leucorhoa), the nominate form occurring throughout Northern Europe including Northern Britain and other parts of the UK and those of southern Europe and the Near East (libanotica).

A fourth form occurring in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco (seebohmi) is considered by the UK400 Club and British Birding Association to be a species in its own right – SEEBOHM’S WHEATEAR.

This short paper deals with the identification of the GREENLAND WHEATEAR – Oenanthe oenanthe leucorhoa – the author being indebted to the experience, knowledge and image provision of Portland Bird Observatory warden Martin Cade.
